What is an intercooler? What is the role of the intercooler?

The concept of intercooler should be unfamiliar to many people. In fact, this is a device that cooperates with turbocharging. Xiaobian compiled the information about the intercooler, and specially came out to share with you.

1. What is the intercooler?

The intercooler is a component of the engine supercharger used as cooling air. His position is quite diverse and can be roughly divided into three types:

1) Front: This type of equipment is mostly designed for high-supercharged engines. The purpose is to use the stronger air flow to cool the compressed air in the intercooler during high-speed driving, and to increase the oxygen content of the compressed air. The position is at the lower end of the rear end of the bumper, the front end of the radiator.

2) Side: This type of equipment is mostly designed for low boost value engines, because the compressed air temperature after turbocharged with low boost value is higher, the boost value turbine is low, and no large intercooler is needed. Cooling down, so it can more effectively reduce the space it occupies in the engine room.

3) Overhead: This is the usual installation position of the rally car. The purpose is to prevent the car from running at high speed in the weedy wilderness. The colder is pierced by the flying stones and branches, which causes more trouble. The hood of this type of vehicle is generally provided with air intake holes.

2. What is the use of the intercooler?

After turbocharging, the air temperature is increased. If the pressurized air is directly charged into the cylinder, it will easily cause deflagration, which is unfavorable for improving the power. Therefore, before the pressurized air is charged into the cylinder, it must be cooled to lower its temperature and increase the density, thereby further increasing the supercharging effect of the supercharger.

In summary, the intercooler is an essential auxiliary device for the supercharged engine, which not only avoids deflagration but also further enhances the supercharging effect.
